How to burn DICOM CD/DVD disks

The program allows the user to create and burn DICOM CD/DVD disks from files/series/studies that have been already opened, from patient data stored in the local database, from DICOMDIR files and from disk folders. The program adds to the CD/DVD disk a free DICOM viewer that allows the patient and/or physician to view the patient's images.

Supported Devices

The program supports the CD/DVD disk drives of the PC (internal and/or USB), and the robotic disk publisher devices of EPSON and PRIMERA.




Configuration of the Epson and Primera producers (Disk Publishers)

If you don't have an Epson or a Primera Disk Publisher, you can skip this section.
Select the menu command "CD/DVD BurningCD/DVD Producer Setup" to configure the CD/DVD robotic disk publisher device.



The above dialog box lets the user select the working folder and to configure the EPSON/PRIMERA producers.
In the working folder the program copies the files to be burned to the CD/DVD. The program deletes the files after the CD/DVD production.

EPSON Configuration


Machine name
It is the name used to communicate with EPSON machine. It must be the one configured in Epson TDBridge software.

Monitoring Folder
Specifies the folder where the program will copy the job file to be processed by the Epson TDBridge software.

Label File
Specifies the pathname of the label project (TDD) file.
The label project file contains the label fields (patient name, study date, institution name etc.) that will be printed on the surface of the CD.
This information is taken by the DICOM files.

Dynamic Field / Field Association
Allows setting the associations between a label field (that will be printed on the CD/DVD) and a dynamic field that will be taken by DICOM files.
The "Associate..." button creates an association between a "CD Label Field" and a "Dynamic Field" of the dropdown combobox that contains basic DICOM fields.



The "Delete" button deletes an association.

PRIMERA Configuration


Machine name
It is the name used to communicate with PRIMERA machine. It must be the one configured in Primera PTBurn software.

Monitoring Folder
Specifies the folder where the program will copy the job file to be processed by the Primera PTBurn software.

Label File
Specifies the pathname of the label project (STD) file.
The label project file contains the label fields (patient name, study date, institution name etc.) that will be printed on the surface of the CD.
This information is taken by the DICOM files.

Dynamic Field / Field Association
Allows setting the associations between a label field (that will be printed on the CD/DVD) and a dynamic field that will be taken by DICOM files.

Create and burn DICOM CD/DVD disks from files/series/studies that have been already opened

  • Open all the series you want to burn in a CD/DVD disk
  • Select the menu command "CD/DVD BurningCreate DICOM CD/DVD".
    A dialog box appears and it allows you to select the desired series. You can select more than one series by holding down the <Control> key of the keyboard and selecting many series.



  • The program asks you to select the CD/DVD writer and the CD/DVD behavior. The DICOM Viewer of the CD/DVD disk can open automatically the first series of the CD/DVD, all the series of the CD/DVD, or it can ask the user to select the desired series to open.



  • The program creates a DICOMDIR file for the selected series and burns the CD/DVD which contains also Sante DICOM Viewer Free.

  • From the database interface select all the series/studies you want to burn in a CD/DVD disk, and press the Create CD/DVD... button
  • The program asks you to select the CD/DVD writer and the CD/DVD behavior. The DICOM Viewer of the CD/DVD disk can open automatically the first series of the CD/DVD, all the series of the CD/DVD, or it can ask the user to select the desired series to open.



  • The program creates a DICOMDIR file for the selected series/studies and burns the CD/DVD which contains also Sante DICOM Viewer Free.

Create and burn DICOM CD/DVD disks from a DICOMDIR file

  • Select the menu command "CD/DVD BurningCreate DICOM CD/DVD From DICOMDIR".
    A dialog box appears and it allows you to select the desired DICOMDIR file.
  • A second dialog box allows you to select the desired series from the contents of the DICOMDIR file. You can select more than one series by checking its checkbox.



  • The program asks you to select the CD/DVD writer and the CD/DVD behavior. The DICOM Viewer of the CD/DVD disk can open automatically the first series of the CD/DVD, all the series of the CD/DVD, or it can ask the user to select the desired series to open.



  • The program creates a DICOMDIR file for the selected series and burns the CD/DVD disk which contains also the free Sante DICOM Viewer Lite.

Create and burn DICOM CD/DVD disks from a disk folder

  • Select the menu command "CD/DVD BurningCreate DICOM CD/DVD From Folder".
    A dialog box appears and it allows you to select the desired folder.
  • The program creates a temporary DICOMDIR file in the memory from the contents of the selected folder, and displays a second dialog box that allows you to select the desired series from the contents of the temporary DICOMDIR file. You can select more than one series by checking its checkbox.



  • The program asks you to select the CD/DVD writer and the CD/DVD behavior. The DICOM Viewer of the CD/DVD disk can open automatically the first series of the CD/DVD, all the series of the CD/DVD, or it can ask the user to select the desired series to open.



  • The program creates a DICOMDIR file for the selected series and burns the CD/DVD disk which contains also the free Sante DICOM Viewer Lite.

Create and burn a custom DICOM CD/DVD disk

  • Create a folder in your desktop (e.g. CDData) and copy the files you wish to put on the CD/DVD disk
  • Use the menu command “File->New DICOMDIR” and create a DICOMDIR file within the CDData folder
  • Use the menu command “CD/DVD Burning->Export CD/DVD Files To Folder” to copy the files of the viewer (Autorun.inf, sante_dicom_viewer_lite.pdf, SDViewerLite.chm, SDViewerLite32.exe, SDViewerLite64.exe) into the folder CDData
  • Write the contents of the folder CDData in a CD/DVD disk (the contents of the folder CDData, not the folder itself because the DICOMDIR file and the files of the viewer must be in the root folder of the CD/DVD disk.
